The Indian Air Force proudly presents the Sekhon IAF Marathon at Ground Opposite Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, Chandigarh.
Run in honour of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, Param Vir Chakra, the Indian Air Force’s only recipient of the nation’s highest wartime gallantry award.
The Legacy of a Hero
The Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon is organized in memory of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC, the sole recipient of the Param Vir Chakra from the Indian Air Force.
"In Srinagar during the 1971 War, Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon defended the airfield single-handedly against six Pakistani Sabre jets in his Folland Gnat. His sublime heroism, supreme quality of leadership, and complete disregard for personal safety remain in the highest traditions of the IAF."
This marathon embodies the speed, endurance, and supersonic spirit of our air warriors, inspiring citizens to push boundaries and run for nationwide unity.

Born in Ludhiana, Punjab. Inherited a family tradition of serving the nation.
1967
Commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the Indian Air Force.
1971
Sacrificed his life defending Srinagar Air Base, posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra.
